PLASTIC POLLUTION

IT’S OUR OCEANS MOST DISASTROUS

ENVIRONMENTAL CRISIS IN HUMAN HISTORY. . .

While exact quantification is nearly impossible to calculate, it is estimated that over 8 Million Tonnes of Plastic has been entering our Oceans every YEAR!

That is the equivalent of over 1500 garbage trucks being dumped into our Oceans…

EVERY SINGLE DAY!

But it is getting far worst as more recent estimates would put Plastic Pollution WAY UP from the previously estimated 8 Million Tonnes per Year, as per the UN Environment Article.

If we don’t stop this, our oceans will get choked in plastic waste, and in just few decades, Plastic Waste will out-weight all fish in our Oceans.

KILLER IS

A THING THAT KILLS

Plastic Waste in our Oceans is a “KILLER”.

Its victims? EVERY ONE!

Recent reports have come up with figures that put Plastic Pollution related Human deaths to over “1” Million per year!

While the estimated Plastic Pollution related deaths for Sea creatures to include Fish, Turtles, Marine Mammals and Birds are “100” Million!

Plastic Waste causes death when it is eaten mistaken for food or accidentally swallowed as in the case of Whales, and when it entangles its victims. This includes Plastic Waste from the smallest of Micro-plastics, Cigarette Butts, Plastic Bottles and Plastic Bags to the largest of “GHOST NETS”.

Plastic Pollution is killing without boundaries nor limits, it kills without mercy, it kills the life giving Microscopic Marine lifeforms with the same indifference as it kills the most majestic and largest creatures in the world. WHALES.

THE OXYGEN

WE BREATHE COMES FROM OUR OCEANS TOO

In fact Phytoplankton, a marine plant Micro-organism can produce up to 50% & marine Seagrass can account for up to 25% more.

They produce Oxygen via photosynthesis as they process marine nutrients and carbon dioxide with sunlight into sugars, their source of energy.

With Forests around the world disappearing alarmingly fast we will depend more and more on our Oceans, but we must Eradicate Plastic Pollution before it destroys such fundamentally vital Ecosystem.

CO2 EMISSIONS

ARE ABSORBED BY OUR OCEANS TOO

Marine Plants are also responsible for the absorption of CO2 and especially in the case of Sea Grass in particular can absorb up to an astonishing 35 times more Carbon Dioxide (CO2) than the same area of land forest.

This is yet another important reason to protect our Oceans, especially so considering how global deforestation has been growing at an alarmingly dangerous rate, making our Oceans that much more vital resource to our survival and that of our Planet.

THE ECONOMICS

OF OUR OCEANS

$13 BILLION DOLLARS YEARLY DAMAGE

That is the Annual estimated Economic damage to our Marine Ecosystems that Plastic Pollution is doing every year as 8 Million Tonnes of Plastic Waste enter our Oceans, according to a UN article. It is absolutely unacceptable to not dedicate needed financial resources to Eradicate Plastic Pollution.

THE ECONOMIC VALUE OF OUR OCEANS

As we talk numbers, it is also important to bring up numbers from a report commissioned by the well respected WWF organization, whose findings place our Oceans as the 7th largest world economy, with an estimated value of $24 Trillion US Dollars, with an annual turnover estimated at $2.5 Trillion US Dollars.

This makes our Oceans also an invaluable economic resource which must be protected before it is too late. The oceans have given us so much, and they will continue to do so indefinitely, but only if we protect them, respect them, and make use of them in a sustainable manner, acting at once to preserve this precious and incredibly important, yet delicate life giving ecosystem.

TO CARE

FOR OUR OCEANS IT’S OUR DUTY

IT’S KILLING OUR OCEANS

EXTERMINATING ITS MARINE LIFE

DESTROYING ITS ECOSYSTEMS

IRREVERSIBLY POISONING OUR ENVIRONMENT

AND ALL LIFE ON OUR PLANET!

CURRENTLY OUR ONLY HOME!

If we don’t take care of our Oceans, not just all Marine Life, but all life on Earth will suffer disastrous consequences.
